When I first called about Pie, I asked his owner how he got his name. Pie is named after the horse Jimmy Stewart rode for more than 20 years in his Western movies - the owner said he looked a little like him. Here's a picture of that Pie, and that site also contains a link to an audio clip where Jimmy Stewart talks about the horse.
Here are some of the pictures I got of Pie's past. Here he is as a baby - that's his mother on the left of the picture - I think he's adorable, but then all foals are adorable:
Here he is as a yearling - I like how he's confidently striding out:
He spent his first year and a half living on the ranch in Montana where he was born, pretty much untouched and outside in all weathers.
Here he is on a cattle drive last year, I believe in Montana - that's Pie on the right:
The latest plan is for Pie to arrive here on Friday afternoon - I can't wait!
Kate, how exciting. And the wind will be all done by then, too! You're going to have such a wonderful weekend with your new boy.
ReplyDeleteOMG, can Friday come soon enough?! Kate, this is just terrific. I am so excited for you.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!!!
ReplyDeleteHe looks just wonderful, I am so happy for you.
Finding the right horse is not easy, but he sounds and looks just perfect, Sweetie Pie :-)
I'll bet he has fantastic feet from spending his youth running around Montana. He's probably an awesome trail horse now with all that experience too.
ReplyDeleteSo exciting!
I love that picture of him walking out as a yearling, he kind of looks like "yeah, and, the big deal is?"! In all these pictures he just oozes a quiet confidence that all is right in his world.
ReplyDeletePie was an adorable little guy and his other pictures show how handsome and sensible he is now. I have a feeling that you and Pie are going to have a wonderful partnership. I'll bet you're even planning on taking him to the Rashid clinic with you? Love his name too and how he got it. Now when I see an old J.Stewart movie I'll be looking at his Pie. Hope Friday comes fast!
ReplyDeleteEeee!!!!! I LOVE HIM!!!!!
ReplyDeleteHow exciting, Kate!!! Love the baby pictures! What I would do for baby pictures of my girl, lucky ducky!
ReplyDeleteaw baby pictures!! Pie looks lovely and I love his head AND think a Roman nose is a masculine feature :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats! He's gorgeous!!! Sounds like he's absolutely perfect for you. I love his name, too. That's also the name of the horse in National Velvet: http://discoveringtheclassics.files.wordpress.com/2010/07/nationalv-bmp.jpg :)
ReplyDeleteOh! Look at what you found! Maybe not just pie in the sky...but Pie on the ground...able to ride you to the sky!
ReplyDeleteHe is neat Kate...love all the baby photos too! Friday come quickly please!
KK
What a sweet boy! It won't be long now...are you going to ride him English or Western? Love the photographs and his name!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good horse you`ve chosen. Congatulations and good luck.
ReplyDeleteLori - I'm planning to ride him English and Western - he's never had an English saddle on but I doubt he'll have a problem with it. He was started in a snaffle, so that will work well for English as well, and goes now in a simple short-shank curb with a slightly arched mouthpiece - he has a big tongue, the vet said so that should work well. I may also try him bareback and in some bitless options, maybe even a bosal at some point once we're working well together - he'd look good in a bosal, I think.
ReplyDeleteCome on Friday!! :) I know you must be beside yourself with excitement! I can't wait to see more pictures and learn more about his personality.
ReplyDeleteI think having baby pictures is the coolest thing ever. There's just something extra special about having baby pictures of your horses.
Fantastic!!! Congratulations on the new friend!! I like him. He looks sensible and reliable, plus he's a bay. Love his name too!! You're going to have a blast getting acquainted with your new partner.

ReplyDeleteI just LOVE that he was actually raised in the West, by a true blue Cowboy...he has the most romantic past:) The gentleman that sold him to you sounds exactly like the old time ranch type that I would buy a horse from in a heartbeat-you and Pie are going to have such a great life together, with so many adventures! Thanks for sharing, and congrats again:)
ReplyDeleteYAY KATE AND PIE!!!! He is adorable! So glad you found THAT Horse Kate!
ReplyDeleteKate, just curious. When was the last time you had a young horse of your very own? If it's been a while, what's changed since then? What do you look forward to most as you begin this new chapter with Pie? I'd love to read what you might write in answer to these questions.
ReplyDeleteOh yay! You will have fun with this good boy.
ReplyDeleteSo excited for you! Ironically, I have baby pictures of Chance too and know nearly all his history...he's the first one I've owned where I know about all that. (Well, sort of too with Toby, but not quite the same way.)
ReplyDeletePie was a good looking baby and he surely does look good out there on the cattle drive. I love him from here!!
Let the fun begin!
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finding your dream pony! I feel so happy for you, knowing that your long, agonizing search is finally over! We have decided to continue our search for a nice, trained riding horse for now. I'm going to continue the search through the winter, but have decided to stop looking at horses on the internet. We're going to simply attend auctions, shows, anywhere where there might be horses for sale. Congrats on finding your horse!!!! Looking forward to hearing about lots of your adventures with Pie!
ReplyDeleteBTW, the Pie Face makes me smile. =)
Love,
~MunciEquestrian~
I can't wait either! So happy for you!
ReplyDelete~Lisa

ReplyDeleteVery exciting!
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see pictures of Pie settling in to his new home!!
ReplyDeleteToo Exciting! I was getting a bit worried that you were going to go all winter without your own horse!
ReplyDeleteAnd now we both have 4 year olds...
AWESOME! I am so excited for you...well worth the wait. Congratulations girl!! :o)
ReplyDeleteOMG!!!!!! Congratulations! Pie looks just beautiful! I can't wait to read about all your new adventures!
