Red Plays Pick-Up-Sticks

Some of these photos are a bit blurry - taken with a cell phone by someone else at the barn - they show Red playing pick-up-sticks.  I've always know he was smart . . .

Here he is, with a large piece of split rail fence - there's an old one, non-essential - along the edge of the geldings' pasture - he's looking pretty pleased with himself - love the ears!:

I love the contrast between little Red and the big warmblood he's offering the rail to:

He's got a firm grip on things, and seems to have figured out the center of gravity of the rail as well:

Just have to love such a smart, playful, horse - he's Mr. Personality Plus!

  2. This is 'picture perfect'! What a fun shot! Maybe he just needs some toys - a jolly ball, a cone, or a bucket! Or, maybe he is showing that warmblood just how he intends to build up his neck muscles to be big and strong!

  4. Cute as anything! Glad you were able to capture the moment for posterity. So often the fun stuff happens "behind closed doors" and all we get to see is the aftermath....gee, how did that rail get there??? *lol*

  5. Ha! the other horse looks a little confused, like "what do you want us to do with it?"

  6. So cute! Rondo has his silly games too. He likes to put his front feet in the empty hay troughs and stamp around (and drag them around if he can get them loose from where they are tied to the fence). He also puts his front feet in the water tank and also plays with the hose when someone is filling it. :o)

  7. Wonderful! My little Palomino boy Comet was picking up fence posts last winter, he and Red would be a fine pair!

  9. Oh my word, that is so funny! he holds it in his teeth- so no concerns with splinters, right? He is clearly so pleased with himself- what a character!

  10. It's funny how horses love to play with sticks. Beamer will push them through the fence for Rio to play with, or toss them over the fence and hopefully wait for you to throw it back in so he can throw it over again.

  11. Red is a smarty pants!! Does he let himself out of gates? I bet he could figure out how to do that. My red QH Bre let's herself out for walkabouts every few months.
